Water Sports In Cyprus
One of the many reasons why Cyprus holidays are popular with so many tourists every year is because of the abundance of water sports available. There are so many activities for everyone to try regardless of whether you have never done water sports before or if you are a waterskiing champion. Some of the sports you can give a try include jet skiing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, parasailing, canoeing, kayaking and banana and tube rides.
In recent years Ayia Napa has become well - known for being the clubbing central of Cyprus. As a result of this it is a common misconception that Cyprus holidays are all about drinking and large groups of youngsters. While this can be true in resorts like Ayia Napa, there is so much more to Cyprus such as the extensive list of water sports available.
If you make your way to the beautiful Paphos Harbour you can take part in some of the exciting water sports available. From paragliding to jet bikes and self - drive speed boats to fly fishing, there is so much to keep you busy at this resort when going on Cyprus holidays.
Another popular area for water sports is Latchi which is located on the north western coast of the island. On the edge of the Akamas peninsula, the area has been transformed into an attractive tourist resort with endless water sport and diving possibilities. If you think Cyprus holidays are about trying new adventures then this is the place to be as you can try water sports that you've never even heard of before.
The Laser Funboat is a safe and easy boat which is ideal for beginners or those who prefer more relaxing activities. If you prefer something that is going to get your heart rate up then try the Dart 18 Catamaran which is all about power and speed. Tube rides are also fun and exciting but slightly tamer than the catamaran.
The coast of Agia Napa is considered to be the finest regarding beaches in Cyprus. Sandy beaches cover the area which attracts thousands of tourists every year. All along the beaches of Agia Napa facilities for all sea sports are provided including water - skiing, wind - surfing, sailing canoes, pedals, motor boats, scooters, speed - boats, parachutes, scuba - diving and more. The stunning scenery and wealth of water sports available makes this an extremely popular resort for tourists all over the world.
Make sure that you take care on your Cyprus holidays as some water sports can be dangerous. Always make sure that you have a trained professional if you don't know what you are doing.

Champion $9.56 Rated: NASynopsis: While far from the only good film on boxing, Champion is perhaps the best drama ever based on the fight game. It is remarkable for a number of things, including: the unrelenting, grinding logic that leads to the hero's tragic fate; the beautiful cinematography and editing that make it a masterpiece of light and shadow; near-perfect performances by everyone, from Kirk Douglas as Midge Kelly, down to the actor who played a sleazy small-time ring manager; and the boost it gave to the budding careers of Douglas and others. The basic story has been told many times, but never so powerfully: A poor, ambitious boy accidentally learns that he is a "natural" boxer, and that he might "go all the way." He wins his early fights with ease and, at last, in the big one, he becomes champion of the world. Then rot sets in. He lives it up, deserts his loved ones and best friends, and loses his physical and moral advantages. Near the end -- out of condition, demoralized -- the champion loses (or almost loses) his boxing crown. Finally, he grits his teeth, returns to rigorous training and to people he really likes, and he regains (or holds onto) the championship. Part of Champion's dramatic superiority is in its brilliant revealing of the boxer through the eyes of other people in his life. There are good guys -- Midge's brother Connie (Arthur Kennedy), his tough but honest trainer (Paul Stewart), his wife Emma (Ruth Roman) and Johnny Dunne, the up-and-coming contender he eventually beats. There are bad guys -- the manager who cheats him in his first, amateurish fight, two successive "owners," of the diner where Midge and Connie try to be entrepreneurs and end up as dishwashers, the blonde siren (Marilyn Maxwell) who abandons Johnny Dunne and helps corrupt Midge, and the mob-connected promoter Harris, who gets Midge his championship bout. There are ambiguous in-betweens, like Palmer (Lola Albright) who is Harris' wife, but who loves Midge and is, perhaps, loved in return. Then there is Midge himself. Unlike Charlie in Body and Soul (John Garfield, 1947) or the hero of the Rocky quintuplets (Sylvester Stallone, 1976-1990), Midge is not a basically nice guy who's been led astray. His ambition, arrogance and stubbornness make him at once villain and hero. These "fatal flaws" contain, as surely as in Macbeth or Othello, the seeds of the champ's ultimate dissolution. Midge is dealt his share of life's unfairness and bad luck. Yet it is not the events themselves, but his bitter, violent responses to each blow that seal his doom. The final irony comes when he makes his comeback. In the last round of the last fight, his most manly virtues -- bull-like strength and stubborn stamina -- bring about both victory and defeat. Too bad that this wonderful film -- nominated for six Oscars including "Best Actor" -- won only an Academy Award for "Film Editing" (Harry Gerstad) and a Golden Globe Award for "Best Cinematography" (Franz Planer). Mercury Racing Dominates Oss Winston Offshore Cup
FOND DU LAC, WI., June 15, 2006 – Twin consumer performance engines coupled to dry-sump Mercury Racing Six drives powered Team CRC, a 39-foot MTI catamaran hull piloted by driver/owner Mike DeFrees of Vancouver, Wash., with veteran throttleman Jeff Harris of Greenville, N.C., on the sticks, to a win in the OSS Cat Extreme competition at the OSS Winston Offshore Cup, Sunday, June 11, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The race was round three of the 2006 Offshore Super Series (OSS) season national points chase.
Team CRC and Budweiser Select, another MTI hull powered by twin 1,500 hp Sterling race engines with world champion throttleman John Tomlinson on the sticks and team owner David Scott behind the wheel, had an intense duel in the first two laps. Team CRC closed the window coming out of turn three at the start of lap three. Team CRC pulled away from Budweiser Select and never looked back to capture the checkered flag. Budweiser Select and Cintron rounded out 2-3. Team CRC now leads the OSSCX national points chase with 290 points, followed by Budweiser Select and Cintron with 286 and 282 points, respectively. Team CRC owner/drive Mike Defrees was ecstatic with the win and the performance of the 1075 SCi consumer engines.
“The 1075 SCis ran flawlessly,” said DeFrees. “They are amazing. We have two poker runs and three races on them – plus tons of test time. They just continue to purr like kittens – they haven’t missed a beat.”
“We haven’t had to touch them,” added DeFrees. “Our competitors are rebuilding engines every race. I think they are curious to know how we can continue to run as well as we have with consumer engines – particularly against purpose-built race engines that have a 400 horsepower advantage.“
“This was a tough race – which required a lot of set-up. Prop selection, boat set-up and balance were critical. Jeff’s throttling skills were invaluable here. I’ve never seen him work as hard as he did in the rough open water that we had here,” said DeFrees.
OSS Cat
Billy Mauff and Jay Muller extended their OSS Cat national points lead by winning their second consecutive OSS Cat competition aboard WHM Motorsports, a 40-foot Skater catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing OSS Cat race engines coupled to Mercury Racing dry-sump Six drives. WHM led the race from start to finish. Reliable Carriers, a Sterling-powered MTI catamaran piloted by Tom Abrams and Steve Curtis, placed second. WarPaint rounded out third. WHM has a total of 295 national points and has accumulated bonus points for completing three consecutive races without an engine rebuild. Reliable is second with a total of 286 points. JB Byrider rounds out third in the OSS Cat points chase with 186 points.
OSS Cat Lite
Twin Mercury Racing HP525 EFI engine packages coupled with dry-sump Six drives-powered Motley Crew, piloted by Scott and Ron Roman, to its third win of the season. The win showed the Crew can dominate in rough water like it did in the calm waters of the previous races. The Roman brothers were way ahead throughout the race, followed by Hooters in second and Reliable Carriers in third. Reliable and Lightning Jacks were both penalized – moving Popeye’s into third. Reliable and Lightning Jacks rounded out in fourth and fifth place. All were powered by twin Mercury Racing 525 EFI engine packages.
OSS Vee
Wazzup, a Fountain hull piloted by the father-and-son team of Ed and Anthony Smith, continued its winning streak claiming their third consecutive race after leading the field start-to-finish in OSS Cat Lite competition. Fury was on their heels for most of the race, but a mechanical failure forced it out of the race on lap seven. Miccosukee Indian Gaming finished second, with Black Pearl rounding out third. Miccosukee was accessed a three-minute penalty as its propeller was found to be illegal during inspection. The penalty placed Black Pearl in second and Miccosukee third. Fury and Bad Boy Powerboats/God Speed rounded out fourth and fifth place. All were powered by twin Mercury Racing 525 EFI engine packages.
OSS Vee Lite
Laveycraft pilots Brian Devlin and Kevin Cooper won their first OSS Vee Lite race of the season. Wild Ride, WHM MINI Me, Senor Frog and Screamin’ Eagle rounded out second through fifth place. All were powered by twin Mercury Racing 525 EFI engine packages.
OSS Cat Outboard
Twin Mercury Racing 2.5 EFI Race Offshore outboards powered Medella Light to win its first OSS Cat Outboard race this year. Mapel, Loan Shark Mojo and American Dream Home Builders rounded out second through fifth place. All were powered by twin Mercury Racing 2.5 EFI Race Offshore outboards.
Mercury Racing supports OSS with a $150,000 contingency prize purse for the 2006 racing season. The purse rewards racers who use Mercury Racing-approved outboards and sterndrives in OSS National Series events in OSS Cat Lite, OSS Vee, OSS Vee Lite and OSS Cat Outboard class competition. OSS Cat class competitors using Mercury Racing-approved OSS Cat engine packages will be rewarded a separate Mercury Racing Winners Circle promotional credit program.
