Coming from Northeastern Ohio, I don't experience a multitude of warm weather long enough to really get into boating. However, I have done it when I've gone to warmer climates for vacations and such and enjoyed it immensely. However, to properly explain these boats, I have to give a slight boat tutorial before launching headlong into my subject of choice. Ready? Simply put, a boat is a water vehicle that floats across the water. Boats come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and have a multitude of uses, and, like cars and motorcycles, some are privately owned. That being said, let me get into that this type of boat.

The Bow Rider is considered to be a "runabout" boat, which simply means that it's small and they are the most often used boats for leisure activities, such as fishing, water skiing, and boat racing! Bow riders are larger than the traditional Runabout Boat in that it holds six to ten people while the traditional boat only holds four to six. There are also different kinds of runabout boats: Bow Rider, center console, cuddy, and the runaround. While they are all used for recreation activities, the "Center Console" -which is quite simply a Runabout Boat with the console in the center, and the "Walkaround"-which is essentially the same as the "Center Console" but has a small cabin as well.

I'm looking at either a runabout, or possibly a cuddy cabin. primarily it would be used for skiing/tubing, cruising, and some light fishing. the biggest i'd be looking at would be 24', but probably more likely 18-21'. I'm leaning towards a stern drive.

You stated you were buying a used boat, therefore high quality lines doesn't matter as much as how the boat was stored, used and abused.

A bayliner (considered low end) plywood core chop sprayed fiberglass sells for $10k to $20k brand new. If stored indoors washed and dried after every outing, and maintenance done to the motor. Low hours on the engine due to an adult couple only taking it out a few weekend during the summer on the freshwater lake by their house.
