Now I share my proven baseball hitting tips with others in the Super 8 Hitting System. Super 8 shatters misconceptions about keeping the back elbow up, stride, hand position, stance, and more; and offers easy, memorable batting techniques that will significantly improve your batting average. In fact, the Super 8 has sent 45 players to the major leagues!
As a bonus, I've developed a series of free instructional training videos and articles to get you started. Just visit out our Web site to learn more at http://www.learnbaseballhitting.com.
Before you go, check out these tips below on using stride correctly:
Stride in the Direction of the Pitch
During my years in professional baseball, a hitting instructor taught "stride in the direction of the pitch" to me. He said:
- If the pitch is inside, step inside.
- If the pitch is down the middle, step down the middle.
- If the pitch is outside, step outside.
Believe it or not, this technique will get a player out of the line up in a hurry!
It is a fallacy for any player to believe that with good pitching, he can wait to stride after he has determined the direction in which the ball is being pitched. In doing so, he will always be late in his timing against decent pitching. Timing against pitchers who can deliver the ball to the hit zone in one-half second or less requires the hitter to stride when the pitcher releases the ball. The stride is a glide step, in the direction of the pitch. It should be only about 6-8 inches.
Here is what successful hitters do:
- Stride when the pitcher throws the ball. At this point, we do not know where it is going to be when it reaches the contact zone.
- Stride in the same place every time, directly ahead, with a six inch glide step.
It is the rotation of the hips, not the stride that determines inside or outside.
Front heel down, hips turn off stride and begin rotation towards the pitch, front heel goes down at completion.
