Getting Your Driver's License Carries A Great Responsibility
Getting your driver's license can either feel like getting the golden ticket to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory or hearing Spider-man's-Uncle-Ben-"Great powers, great responsibility" speech.
While driving may be fun and makes life a lot more convenient, it does have great responsibilities attached to it.
1. You are in the driver's seat. Having a driver's license means you've completed all the necessary courses to assess your readiness and skill as a driver. It means you are fully aware of what you signed up for when you got it. The driver's license instantly gives you insight on how you are liable for the safety of all who are inside the vehicle, the vehicle itself and the other motorists around you.
2. Your wheels aren't free. Having a driver's license not only entitles you to being able to operate a vehicle, it also teaches you how to keep an untarnished record. If you've run the gauntlet of the required/optional courses to get that driver's license, then you know how neglecting a regulation can end up costing you a lot of money.
3. You are always being watched. Driving is like constantly taking an exam. You may feel like the teacher isn't looking and cheat a little, but she sees you, and you get an F. Like the teacher, the law is always watching. Your name is attached to your driver's license --- and with all the monitoring devices on the road, you can only imagine bending the rules leads to something a little worse than detention.
Having a driver's license feels fantastic. It affirms that society trusts you enough to allow you to wield a vehicle. It also serves as a constant reminder of not only possessing a valuable skill, but being a responsible person. Which would you rather be: a person with a driver's license and responsibility, or someone riding a go-kart/bike, dreaming of being one?
