Texas Bow Hunting - 8 Hunting Laws You Must Know
Texas is a great choice for your next bow hunting trip. With thousands of acres available for the hunter to choose from, he can have great success and come home with big trophies and great stories.
Rutting activity begins in Texas around October 21, with the peak of rut hitting around November 12, and in the northern regions around November 22. There are so many great choices for the hunter to find deer on the move during Texas bow season. One off-the-beaten-path location is the Angelina Dam located on the border of Jasper and Tyler County. It is close to the B.A. Steinhagen Reservoir at the fork of the Angelina and Neches Rivers. More than 12,000 acres are covered by the reservoir with about 5,000 acres open to the bow hunter. The chances here of seeing a great trophy buck are good, but there are also some other creatures to be aware of. The Angelina Dam area is home to alligators, copperheads, rattlesnakes, and deep mud to trudge through. With the proper gear though, including snake-proof boots and chaps, a hunter will surely come across evidence of some trophy bucks in the area.
It's important to be familiar with the bow hunting laws in Texas. Some of the important things to know are:
1. Crossbows are not allowed for hunting migratory game.
2. No bows or crossbows in muzzeloader season.
3. Only those licensed to carry a concealed weapon may carry one. Other concealed carry permits are not recognized, though you may carry a gun in your vehicle.
4. Bow and crossbows may be used to hunt non-game, unprotected animals.
5. Bows must have a minimum 40 pound draw for all animals except squirrel.
6. Bows with full or partial draw locks are legal during any lawful bow season.
7. Crossbows with telescopic sights may be used to hunt game animals except migratory game birds, during open and turkey season.
8. Those who can not use a regular bow due to the loss of a hand or arm may use a crossbow to hunt deer and turkey during the archery only open seasons and the Eastern spring turkey season.
Along with knowing and understanding the Texas bow hunting laws, a hunter must practice utmost safety in the field; be sure to dress in camouflage with orange visible to other hunters. With these few tips and laws in mind, a hunter can get started planning his Texas bow hunting adventure.

Open Sky $15.18 Iona's seventh album brings more of their patented progressive layered instrumentals and ambient respites, both seasoned by uilleann pipes, whistles, and other folk instruments. Unlike previous albums, however, Open Sky's instrumental passages possess more drive and body than before. It wasn't uncommon for such segments to continue vapidly for five or ten minutes before finally fading to an unsatisfying conclusion. Guitarist Dave Bainbridge makes much better use of his talents and available time (73 minutes) as he incorporates less of the innocuous and more of the inspired playing, akin to Steve Hackett as heard on The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Trick of the Tail. In fact the technique employed by drummer Frank Van Essen resembles that of Genesis drummer Phil Collins from that same period. That's not to infer that Iona has abandoned their ambient and noodling proclivities; they've just found a way of making them more tuneful and relevant. The addition of violin (also played by Van Essen) to their lineup has made a difference in that regard. While Joanne Hogg's voice is prominent on several songs, Iona has always had the visage of an all-instrumental band. Her supple voice radiates from and melts into the music in much the same manner as a woodwind or electric keyboard. It's used more for textured than expressive purposes but is, nevertheless, a key identifying feature of this band. Broken Bow $15.18 Spiky, reverb-heavy indie pop with an easygoing flair isn't a new thing in music, but sometimes context is everything -- and amid all the neo-Springsteen epics and theatrical presentations that still seem to define what indie rock is in 2010, hearing Eux Autres kick off their fourth album with the cheerily atmospheric "Jamais" almost feels like a fresh breeze. That said, Broken Bow, while hardly shoegaze, has the same kind of like-minded connection to the form that bands like Velocity Girl and Black Tambourine had to Ride or Slowdive way back when -- guitars as rich texture, production as important as the song itself, and a healthy love of a '60s sonic never-never land. So when lead singer Heather Larimer breaks into the opening "ba ba ba" part on "Under Rays," the feeling is a classic combination of familiarity and, almost, audacity at going for the engagingly simple. The Velvets/proto-glam chug of "Wind Me Up" and their sparkling version of Springsteen's "My Love Will Never Let You Down" are also joys but they're among the many throughout the album, consistent in overall sound but never once feeling dull as a result. "You're Alight" might be the standout track of the collection, thanks to Larimer's sweetly gleeful delivery of the title phrase as chorus, the overlay of keyboards and piano on top of the band's arrangement adding a surging power and an overall feeling of euphoric rush, but the equally stirring "Go Dancing" isn't that far behind when it comes to stepping out and putting a smile on your face. Nicholas Larimer, though he takes less of the lead overall, gets his moments as well, with "Take It or Leave It" being a steady, rumbling winner with a lovely guitar-led conclusion. If Broken Bow is low-key and pleasant rather than immediate and monumental (or aiming to be), it's exactly what the now well established band wants to do in the first place. ~ Ned Raggett, Rovi |

Does anyone else not have the Christmas spirit?
IS it me or does X-mas seem to be less of a family and relegoius day and more of a "lets see if we can get our selves into a debt and out do the Jones" Since when did we bow down to our children and spend exorbant amount of money on gifts and presents. What happen to the days of just being happy that you and your families were safe and good health. When a simple gift made you smile and children really believed that naughtiness got you a lump of coal. I just feel life has gotten so out of whack and the last if the true holidays has finally left. You can expect next year to have stores open for X--mas days slaes.
