Choosing the Right Texas Insurance Company
1) Price
Price is not the #1 factor in determining your insurance coverage needs. However, it is a good place to start. You might be able to decide on a "Top 3" based on your results and based on what you can afford. Remember, the information below combined with the cost, will help you determine which Texas insurance agency to go with. If you base your coverage on price alone, the odds are that you will probably end up regretting it. You can always find cheap Texas car insurance if you are looking for it.
2) Get references from the people who KNOW
Who better to get information than the people that deal with claims every single day? Local body shops deal with auto insurance companies all of the time. If you can take time to talk to a body shop manager for just a few minutes, you can rest assured that they will express their opinion on auto insurance companies. The best thing to do is talk with two or three body shops if you are going to talk with one to get a sound consensus.
3) Financial Strength Ratings
Financial strength has become much more important in the wake of AIG and other companies that have or would have failed if they had not been given loands. If you are dealing with a larger company, you can probably research their financial strength fairly easily. Smaller companies are going to be harder to research as they may not provide public records. If anything, the lesson that we learned was that financial strength does not equate to the size of the company. Basic research can help here. 4) Department of Insurance

5) Inquire about discounts you might qualify for such as a multiple policy discount.
One little known secret is that you can receive discounts to your overall policy if you combine or consolidate separate policies. Also, be sure to ask about discounts for a good credit score, driving record, safety equipment (i.e. ABS), etc.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that after you have done your research, made the proper phone calls to conduct interviews and you have all of the numbers right in front of you, ask yourself, "Which Texas Insurance Agency company feels right? That's right, overall, which company do you feel most comfortable with based on all of the information you have. It's not all about the numbers.

The bigger companies like Geico and State Farm will probably be there for you. However, as we have seen, sometimes insurance companies can be too big. Yes…they have the financial backing but the bottom line is that they will lack a little bit of that "small town" feel where you can actually build a long-term relationship.
