Lhasa tour - Tibet Lhasa holiday package

This trip gives you an insight into the fascinating history and culture of the Tibetans. As you are taken on a grand tour to the fabled capital city of Lhasa, you may feel as though you have been transported to another era.

If you want to savor the rich Tibetan culture and history but don't have much time to spare, then this tour is tailored for you. Lhasa, the most famous among Tibetan cities, was the capital of the first Tibetan emperor Songstan Gampo. The city of Lhasa lies on the north bank of the Lhasa river, a tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo river, at an altitude of 3,700 meters. Covering an area of 544 sq kilometers and lying at an altitude of 3660 meters, Lhasa is the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The city has a history of over 13 centuries and is synonymous with Tibetan culture and heritage. Your tour itinerary includes a visit to the majestic Potala palace, the splendid Norbulingka (summer retreat of the Dalai Lama), the sacred Jokhang temple and the busy Barkhor square. > DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa (3650m)
We can arrange your arrival in Lhasa from anywhere. You can either join the trip from Kathmandu and fly to Lhasa or arrive Lhasa from Chengdu, Beijing , Shanghai, Xian or any nearby hub. You will be met at Gonggar Airport by your Tibetan guide. After immigration formalities, you will be driven to Lhasa (3650 meters). It takes around an hour to reach the old city. After checking in at your hotel, you are advised to take rest and take it easy. Drink plenty of fluids and let your body get used to Lhasa's high altitude.
Note:
There is no fixed program arranged for today.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Lhasa
After breakfast, you will be briefed on the day's program. An experienced guide will take you on a tour to Sera Monastery, Norbulingka and the Barkhor Square. At the famous Sera Monastery, you will get an insight into the important aspects of Tibetan Buddhism.  You pay a visit to Norbulingka, the summer retreat of the Dalai Lama. Completed in1956, the handsome building is ornately decorated with Tibetan carvings and paintings.

Jokhang temple provides yet another glimpse of the rich Tibetan cultural heritage. You will also get the chance to stroll around the busy Barkhor Square, the nerve centre of Lhasa. After the day's tour, you will be escorted back to your hotel.

Day 3: Sightseeing in Lhasa
After an early breakfast, you will be escorted by your guide to the majestic Potala Palace. The imposing structure of the palace dominates the landscape of Lhasa. As you are guided through the ancient chambers of the palace, you get to see Tibetan art at its best. The Potala Palace has a vast array of intricate Tibetan murals and beautiful statues.

You will also get to view the tombs of the eight Dalai Lamas. Later in the day you will visit the beautifully landscaped Drepung Monastery where you can observe nuns and monks chanting and performing religious discourses. After the day's tour is over, you are escorted back to your hotel for a well-earned rest.
Note: Since only a limited number of visitors are allowed to visit the Potala Palace every day, the order of sightseeing places will be decided upon by your guide.

Day 4: A free day in Lhasa
This day is for you to spend it as you wish. Explore and soak in the sights and sounds of the old city, revisit a favorite monastery, go for souvenir hunting in the busy local market at Barkhor Square, or simply sit in a café and watch the pilgrims as they circumambulate the Jokhang .

There is also the option of an additional tour to places such as the Tibetan Medical Centre, Ganden Monastery and Tsurphu Monastery. But this additional tour will incur an extra cost.

Day 5: Depart Lhasa
You will be transferred to the airport in time to catch your flight home.

Grand Hotels of Egypt in the Golden Age of Touring (Hardcover)

Grand Hotels of Egypt in the Golden Age of Touring (Hardcover)

$23.97

From the earliest resthouses serving travelers on the Overland Route between Britain and Bombay to the grand Edwardian palaces on the Nile that made Egypt the exotic alternative to wintering on the Riviera, the hotels of Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan were always about far more than just bed and board. As bridgeheads for African exploration, neutral territories for conducting diplomacy, headquarters for armies, providers of home comforts for writers, painters, scholars, and archaeologists in the field, and social hubs for an international elite, more of importance happened in Egypt`s hotels than in any other setting. It was through the hotels that visitors from the west--the earliest adventurers, then the travelers and, finally, the tourists--experienced the Orient. This book tells the stories of Egypt`s historic hotels (including the Cecil, Shepheard`s, Mena House, Gezira Palace, Semiramis, Winter Palace and Cataract) and some of the people who stayed in them, from Amelia Edwards, Lucie Duff Gordon, and Florence Nightingale to Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle, Winston Churchill, and TE Lawrence.

Touring the National Parks of the Southwest

Touring the National Parks of the Southwest

$7.99

Based on the 506-page full guide to the great American national parks, how to avoid the crowds, walking tours, facilities and how to get there, this edition focuses on the major parks of the Southwest: Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Utah & Nevada. It includes information on accommodations and dining, camping and tours. Included are Arches, Bandelier, Big bend, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Bryce Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Carlsbad Caverns, Colorado National Monument, Dinosaur National Monument, Glen Canyon, Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Great Basin, Great Sand Dunes, Lake Mead, Mesa Verde, Petrified Forest, Rocky Mountain National park, Saguaro, White Sands, & Zion National Park. Unlike other guides, this explains in detail how to tour the parks: how much time to allow, how to avoid the crowds, what each place is really like, what you can safely skip and what you must not miss. It offers advice on planning if you have only a few hours, or if you have a few days to explore. Complete directions on getting to and from the parks are included, as well as how to get around once you're there, whether you want to tour independently or prefer to join a group excursion. It also profiles places to stay and eat in and near each park, with options to suit all budgets. Maps show each park's features, along with all surrounding access routes. Are you wondering when to visit? The author tells all about the climate and the crowds (or lack of them) in all seasons and recommends the ideal times to explore our nation's treasures. A unique section, Suggested Trips, contains customized itineraries, describing ways to combine visits to one or more parks with tours of nearby attractions. These routes are designed to last from four to 10 days and include complete directions and recommended places to stay each night. Describes the parks in depth, giving advice on planning your time - vital when it comes to setting priorities. Invaluable. -- Physician's Travel & Meeting Guide Maps are shown for every park. The print edition of the full book is 506 pages. This is a straight-talking author who reminds me of a smart, blunt friend... no pussyfooting around. -- The Armchair Traveler, Daily Herald Although it does not include every site administered by the NPS, this book is very thorough in its treatment of the parks it covers. The author also describes 13 suggested driving trips of five to 12 days each, incorporating nearby attractions. Includes detailed information on accommodations/campgrounds, activities available in each park, handy tips and tidbits, maps and photos. A great travel reference book! -- Amazon customer Touring America's national parks has become a pastime for me. I've been from Acadia to the North Cascades to the Grand Canyon and this book is an excellent reference. With an emphasis on traveling via automobile, it also has several suggested hiking trips in each park as well as other poin

Based on the 506-page full guide to the great American national parks, how to avoid the crowds, walking tours, facilities and how to get there, this edition focuses on the major parks of Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota: Badlands, Devil's Tower, Grand Teton, Mt. Rushmore, Scott's Bluff and Yellowstone. It includes information on accommodations and dining, camping and tours. "Describes the parks in depth, giving advice on planning your time - vital when it comes to setting priorities. Invaluable." -- Physician's Travel & Meeting Guide. Maps are shown for every park. The print edition of the full book is 506 pages. "This is a straight-talking author who reminds me of a smart, blunt friend... no pussyfooting around." -- The Armchair Traveler, Daily Herald. "Although it does not include every site administered by the NPS, this book is very thorough in its treatment of the parks it covers. The author also describes 13 suggested driving trips of five to 12 days each, incorporating nearby attractions. Includes detailed information on accommodations/campgrounds, activities available in each park, handy tips and tidbits, maps and photos. A great travel reference book!" -- Amazon customer. "Touring America's national parks has become a passtime for me. I've been from Acadia to the North Cascades to the Grand Canyon and this book is an excellent reference. With an emphasis on travelling via automobile, it also has several suggested hiking trips in each park as well as other points of interest. They say that most people never get more than 100 feet from their cars in parks. Well, this is the book to help get you there, and point out the best routes outside of your car. It covers more territory than anyone could possibly see in a lifetime...but it's sure fun to try.&quot
