How A Hydrogen Gas Saver Works
If you have been looking for ways of beating the ever increasing price of gas, you may have come across the idea that you can run your car on water. It probably sounds too good to be true, but is it?
Run Your Car on Water?
Can you really do this? To be honest: yes and no. While it is impractical to run a car on nothing but water, it is possible to use water to boost fuel efficiency and lower harmful emissions.
Hydrogen from Water
As is commonly known, water is a simple molecule made from two hydrogen atoms bound to a single oxygen atom. The process of water electrolysis, in which DC current is used to split water molecules in pairs to form two hydrogen molecules and one oxygen molecule apiece, is commonly performed as a science experiment in schools today. While this process is currently not widely used to produce hydrogen because the process requires more energy than can be recovered by any process that is practical today, it remains the simplest means of separating hydrogen from water.
Water Electrolysis for the Car
The "hydrogen gas saver," then, is a device which performs electrolysis on water, producing the HHO (hydrogen-hydrogen-oxygen) gas. Though the method of electrolysis is not a practical means of providing all of the power for a car because of the huge amount of energy it would take to split such large amounts of water, it can be used to provide enough hydrogen to boost fuel efficiency when mixed with regular gasoline.
Installing a Hydrogen Gas Saver
The hydrogen gas saver is a simple device to build, being little more than a water tank with positive and negative electrodes and an exhaust tube to capture the HHO gas produced. Used in combination with your mechanicís usual advice (keep an eye on your tire pressure and oil, etc), this nifty little device can save you gas money!
Conclusion
While we should not overstate what can be achieved with a hydrogen gas saver, it is plausible that such a device could produce enough hydrogen to produce gains in fuel efficiency.
