67 Mustang Fastback For Sale
When Ford introduced the Mustang in 1964, they had beaten the competition to the punch, but the other automakers were hot on their heels. By the release of the '67 Mustang, Chevrolet was introducing the Camaro and other automakers were already providing a challenge. Plymouth had the Barracuda and Pontiac had the Firebird. Mercury also had its own muscle car called the Cougar.
Ford answered this increased competition with the now-legendary 1967 redesign. However, at the time of its release, Ford took a bit of a hit. There were a lot of customers unhappy with the new Mustang because it was larger and heavier than the '65 and '66 Mustangs. This is interesting in retrospect because it is these exact features that set the '67 apart from the other "late 65's", and make it so coveted by enthusiasts.
While less successful initially than Ford's earlier offerings, the 1967 was not a failure, and Ford sold more than 325,000 of the standard coupes at a price that is eye-popping by today's standards: $2,461. Of all the 1967 Mustangs, perhaps the fastback holds the greatest allure for the modern collector. Ford sold just north of 50,000 units of the '67 Mustang fastback for sale, priced at just $200 more than the coupe.
These low sales in 1966 explain why it's so hard to find a '67 Mustang fastback for sale relative to the other "late 65's". The uniqueness of these cars exacerbates the short supply. There were distinct elements introduced for the 1967 Mustang that were gone by the following model year. This is especially true for the 2+2 fastback configuration, which is simply electrifying compared to the other fastbacks for sale in the 60s.
The enthusiast who has his or her heart set on a '67 Mustang fastback for sale needs to know that this won't be a simple process. The easiest way to purchase one is through an auction house specializing in classic cars. However, if you take that route, you're dealing with fully restored cars, and looking at paying a minimum of $50,000, and that price can climb quickly.
Since they are so coveted, finding a '67 Mustang fastback for sale as use for a project classic car is going to require a lot of patience. It will also likely require quite a bit of travelling, although the Internet has helped limit that aspect of the search.
