Ford Explorer Salvage
The Ford Explorer was introduced to the North American market place in 1990. The vehicle is built by the Ford Motor Company based out of Detroit Michigan. The Explorer is described as a mid-size sport utility vehicle. It is manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky and has been a bread and butter sales leader for the Ford Motor Company fleet of cars.
In the 90's there was plenty of Ford explorer salvage to buy on the market. This mainly came from the fact that it was involved in a controversy. It seems that the SUV was not weighted correctly and was prone to tipping over. There was a few high profile incidents were there were a lot of incidents were rollover accidents occurred with the Firestone tires. As a result to cool the public perception of the vehicle, Ford severed its standing relationship with Firestone Tires and switch over to Goodyear Tire Company. This move was a big decision, as the founder established the relationship with Firestone tires and it is said that Firestones owner and Ford himself were good friends. This change did cool some of the controversy of the rollovers and gave Ford time to re-engineer its SUV reduce the problem of rollovers in the future.
Ford Explorer salvage was also high accessible as law enforcement around the country started adding explorers to their fleets. Law enforcement explorers entered the salvage ranks as the vehicles were removed from polices accidents from chases and apprehensions.
The first generation of the ford explorer was very boxy. This was intentional to allow it to compete with the Chevy Blazer that was very popular during 1991-1994. It was equipped with a 4.0 L 155 hp V6 engine and 4-speed A4LD automatic transmission. You could also get it in a 5 speed M5OD Manual Transmission. The transmission could come in a rear or 4 wheel drive package. The body came in either a 4 door version or a 2 door version. There was also a high end version of this vehicle call the Eddie Bauer Edition. The Eddie Bauer only came in a 4 door version. The engine was given an extra 15 hp bringing the total hp to 170.
The Ford Explorer is not as popular now as the gas prices are making them very expensive to operate. This is not just the Ford Explorer; it is SUV's in general.
