Why does my 98 Yamaha Exciter 270hp Jet Boat take on large amounts of water? Is this normal?
We have to run the bulge pump after short rides. We also found water in the engine department. Has anyone had any trouble from this or is this normal for this boat?
I have 2000 Yamaha LS with the same problem,,,,,It all started when that first ski rope got sucked up. It pushed thru the seal on the impeller shaft. The water gets into the engine compartment once it gets to level "x" and comes thru where the exhaust pipes exit thru the fiberglass. You should run your bilge pump all the time, regardless if you take on water or not! It has a "high water" switch to tell it when to pump.
Open the rear deck "clean out" hatch compartment, Remove the 15 screws holding the tub in. Remove the tub. Disconect the drain line at this tub, but not the two electric connection for the safety switch. Cut away all the loose mastic, at the impeller shafts, Speedo Pickup etc..... should be white-ish in color. Recaulk it all. replace tub and take it for a spin the next day. You could have a diff. problem but this is mine. Check the ski locker,,,if it has water in it, its getting full! Take the time to vacuum the bilge area while you are there, no need to clog the pump and have a real problem!
Let me know if you want to install an extended pylon for wake boarding!
