Auction Cars
Who has some information about the GM auction in Arizona for oldtimers and special cars?

Have read in the motorpress that GM sells some special cars of the own collection to make some money. Has somebody got a link to an auction catalogue? Or how could I take part in the auction? When?

Do you mean the Barrett Jackson auction held in Arizona? They featured that on The Speed Channel constantly for the past few days, but I think it may be over now. Too bad that you missed it.

GM sold some one-of-a-kind concept cars in the auction, and some of them didn't sell for as high as I thought considering how unique they were. Here's some of them that I saw go up for auction -

1992 Chevy Impala SS 510ci (actually had a 510ci big block!)

1994 Chevy Impala SS 6-speed manual (all of the production versions had 4-speed automatics)

1987 Pontiac Trans Am Twin Turbo (I would have bought this one if I had the money LOL!)

1990's C4 Corvette 454 (yes, they put a 454 in a C4 Corvette!)

1990's Corvette ZR-1 with active suspension

There were a few others but I can't remember what they were.

Muscle Cars (Paperback)

Muscle Cars (Paperback)

$20.47

In 2010, a 1970 Plymouth Superbird fetched $286,000 at an auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2009, a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Barracuda sold for $2.16 million. Auctions of classic cars in general and muscle cars in particular routinely garner upwards of $39 million annually. Since their debut in the early 1960s, Americans have been in love with the horsepower under the hood of muscle cars like the GTO, Camaro, and Mustang. From their origins in Detroit, muscle cars became the stuff of dreams for millions of baby boomers. Car buff and historian Colin Romanick lifts the hood on these classics in Muscle Cars, covering everything from legendary automotive icons like John DeLorean and Lee Iacocca to the differences between muscle cars and pony cars to the relationship between street cars and racing cars. Romanick also looks at the economic environmental effects of the 1970s that brought an end to the muscle car era.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, (SIDS), and premature birth have been linked to carbon monoxide exposure by pregnant women. Other symptoms of lowlevel CO exposure are headache, nausea, dizziness, flulike illnesses, upset stomach, vomiting, drowsiness, disorientation, and shortness of breath. Dealer auto auctions process 3 to 20 vehicles or more at a time in large, partially enclosed buildings while 15 to 75 others stand idling in line. It is virtually impossible to avoid buildup of carbon monoxide in such an environment. The result is exposure of workers, staff, customers and visitors to undefined levels of CO. Left Overs asks this question: Federal agencies CDC, EPS, OSHA and NIOSH all warn against operating internal combustion engines (cars, trucks, forklifts, gaspowered tools) inside buildings or enclosures. Why then are auto auctions not similarly monitored or even discussed in OSHA or NIOSH literature? CO detectors, designed to warn of overexposure, are the logical defense against CO poisoning, but they are not generally used at auto auctions. Rogers asks, Why not? Why hasnt OSHA or NIOSH moved to regulate CO at auto auctions on behalf of those who patronize or work at auto auctions? Author: Rogers, Gerald A. Vickrey Auction

Vickrey Auction

$71.7

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A Vickrey auction is a type of sealedbid auction, where bidders submit written bids without knowing the bid of the other people in the auction. The highest bidder wins, but the price paid is the secondhighest bid. The auction was created by William Vickrey. This type of auction is strategically similar to an English auction, and gives bidders an incentive to bid their true value. Vickreys original paper considered only auctions where a single, indivisible good is being sold. In this case, the terms Vickrey auction and secondprice sealedbid auction are equivalent, and are used interchangeably. When multiple identical units (or a divisible good) are being sold in a single auction, the most obvious generalization is to have all winning bidders pay the amount of the highest nonwinning bid. This is known as a uniform price auction. The uniformprice auction does not, however, result in bidders bidding their true valuations as they do in a secondprice auction unless each bidder has demand for only a single unit. Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. A victory auction is a type of auction in which the bidders to purchase an object write down their bids, and the bidder with the highest bid wins, but pays the price bid by the second highest bidder. The object of a victory auction is to discourage gaming of an auction, where people propose prices less than they are willing to pay in order to pay less than the maximum price they would pay, instead the auction does this automatically, by giving the win to the highest bidder, but at the price which was the one just below theirs. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 64 Publication Date: 2011/04/01 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.02 x 0.15 inches

Walrasian Auction

Walrasian Auction

$71.7

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A Walrasian auction, introduced by Leon Walras, is a type of simultaneous auction where each agent calculates its demand for the good at every possible price and submits this to an auctioneer. The price is then set so that the total demand across all agents equals the total amount of the good. Thus, a Walrasian auction perfectly matches the supply and the demand. Walras suggests that equilibrium will be achieved through a process of tatonnement (French for groping ), a form of hill climbing.
